Excerpts from the BY-LAWS


Statement of Purpose

In order to foster a sense of historic place and duty; to promote communication between persons of similar interest, rank, and position; to study and publish historical and other works relative to the nobles and Celtic peoples of Scotland, Ireland, and elsewhere; to provide both a forum and gathering place for those persons currently holding noble Celtic titles and others of similar mind and interest; to establish a resource for materials on the subject; and to honour the traditions of the Celtic Nobiliary, We do Hereby Establish -

 

The Noble Society of Celts.

 

Jurisdiction

The jurisdiction of this organization shall be North American Continent, however members are invited from anywhere in the world.

 

Administration

The Society shall be administered by an Executive Committee made up of the following officers:

  • A. Honorary Chieftain, whose duties shall be those normally associated with the rank of Chairman and who serves as the Chief Presiding Officer.

  • B. Chancellor, whose duties shall be those normally associated with the rank of President and shall serve as the Chief Administrative Officer.
  • C. Vice Chancellor, whose duties shall be those normally associated with the rank of Vice President and who shall undertake such duties as assigned by the Honorary Chieftain or the Chancellor.
  • D. Deputy Chancellor, whose duties shall be the oversight of admissions.
  • E. Exchequer, whose duties shall be those normally associated with the office of Treasurer.
  • F. Secretary, whose duties include all communications to the membership and who shall serve as the Webmaster of the Society.
  • G. First Herald, who shall review the uses of Arms by members and liaison with all other Heraldic authorities.
  • H. Herald, who shall maintain the roll of arms of the Society, and with the Secretary cause them to be published form time to time.

Terms of Office

Officers serve at the Pleasure of the Honorary Chieftain.  Vacancies in offices are filled from nominations solicited from the membership and elected by the Executive Committee.  Election to office must include the affirmative vote of the Honorary Chieftain.

 

Founding Officers

The founding and organizational officers of the Society are:

  • Honourary Chieftain - The Much Honoured General the Chev. Bailey McCune of Coll Earn and Elphinstone, Baron of Elphinstone NSC, GCLJ, GCCStS pp

  • Chancellor -  HE Chev. Roger Carlton Sherman of Castlemore, NSC, GCLJ, KMLJ, OStJ
  • Vice Chancellor - + Lt.Col. The Late Chev. Charles Prigmore of Aglish NSC, KLJ
  • Exchequer and Secretary - HE Chev. Thomas Paul Westgaard, NSC, GCLJ, KMLJ pp
  • First Herald - +HE the Late Chev. Dr. David Pittman Johnson of Kilbonane, NSC, KLJ

Noble Advisors

The Executive Committee shall solicit guidance from the Noble Advisors, a board of not more than five persons of the highest position and standing on matters of the Celtic Nobility.  Such persons shall have the responsibility of reviewing extraordinary policies and making recommendations of same to the Executive Committee.

  • The first Noble Advisor was  His Grace the 12th Duke of Argyll  (+2001)
     

Patrons

The Society may select persons of great Celtic importance to the position of Patron.  There shall be no more than three patrons, who shall serve for life or until resignation.

 

Dues and Fees

The Executive Committee shall form time to time set such dues and fees as shall be necessary for the operation of the Society. Dues may be waived for the following:

  1. Serving Officers

  2. Patrons and Noble Advisors
  3. Honorary Members
  4. Such persons, already a member, who shall apply for hardship waiver.

Fees include:   

  • Diploma of Membership

  • Blazer bullion or star patch
  • Website listing
  • Inclusion in the Armory of the Society.

  • Newsletter of the Society - "The Awen" - and such other special offerings to the membership.
